Welcome to the Illinois Licensure Requirements from IDFPR

Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) has issued a series of continuing education requirements for licensed professionals. Advocate Aurora Health has several offerings to help our licensed professionals meet these requirements. Requirements are subject to change, and each professional is responsible for ensuring that they are meeting the requirements for their licensure. 

Nurses & APRNs: Click here for complete information about IL state licensure requirements for Nursing. All requirements below count towards the 20 CE hours for RNs/LPNs and 80 CE hours for APRNs. The next renewal deadline has been extended to June 30, 2024.

PAs:  Click here and here for complete information about IL state licensure requirements. All of the special CE requirements noted count toward the 50 CE hours required for renewal. 

Physicians:  Click here for complete information about IL state licensure requirements. All of the special CME requirements noted count toward the 150 CME hours required for renewal.  The next renewal deadline is July 31, 2026.

Licensure Resources

    Opioids
    Controlled substance license holders must complete 3 CME hours on safe opioid prescribing practices offered or accredited by a professional association, state government agency, or federal agency. CME taken by physicians as a requirement for licensure in another state, or for purposes of board certification application or renewal, count towards this new requirement. AAH education to help you meet these requirements. 

    Implicit Bias
    Every licensed healthcare professional is required to take one hour of training on recognizing implicit bias in health care.

    Sexual Harassment Prevention
    Every licensed professional in Illinois (required to complete continuing education) is required to complete 1 hour of continuing education on sexual harassment prevention.

    ---- Please note: if you are employed by Advocate Health you are required to still complete the sexual harassment course in WorkDay.

    Recognizing Dementia
    Every licensed healthcare professional who has direct patient interaction with adults age 26 and above must take one hour of training on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. This requirement is not applicable to pharmacists or pharmacy techs. 

    Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse
    Clinicians who treat children must complete this training requirement once every six years. Please note that by clicking on the link below, you will be leaving our CE Learning Platform.  You will need to register for an account and the system will track the completion for this course. 

    Cultural Competencies

    For health care professional license or registration renewals occurring on or after January 1, 2025, a health care professional who has continuing education requirements must complete at least a one-hour course in training on cultural competency. The education for this requirement is currently being created. Stay tuned for more information.
