Ensuring Safety: The Impact of ISMP Guidelines on Pharmacy Technician Practices
This presentation explores the history and significance of the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) and discusses the integration of these guidelines within Advocate Health. It aims to show how ISMP guidelines impact pharmacy technicians' workflows, including topics like high-alert medications (HAM), look alike sound alike (LASA) medications, error-prone abbreviations, Tall Man lettering, and sterile compounding practices. We will compare Advocate Health protocols to ISMP guidelines and examine the safety council structure utilized to develop, implement, and review these protocols.
