Cutting Through Confusion: MOUD Management in Surgery Patients Recorded Presentation

Postoperative pain management in patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) requires careful oversight to ensure adequate pain control is achieved. This presentation will describe approaches to pain management in patients undergoing surgery with OUD, including patients utilizing maintenance methadone, buprenorphine +/- naloxone, or naltrexone therapy for OUD.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to

  • Review the agents utilized for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD), including their mechanism of action and place in therapy.
  • Differentiate between guideline-recommended perioperative pain management strategies for patients with OUD.
  • Develop acute pain plans for post-surgical patients on medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) therapy
