This activity provides an evidence-based review of pneumonia diagnosis and management, emphasizing antimicrobial selection, de-escalation, and duration of therapy. Learners will review epidemiology, classifications, and recent guideline updates from the American Thoracic Society (ATS).

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  • Identify patient specific factors that affect pneumonia treatment   

  • Outline the key differences between the 2016 IDSA guidelines and the 2019 ATS guidelines  

  • Recognize common workflow gaps in pneumonia diagnosis and management  

  • Apply evidence-based strategies to determine appropriate duration of therapy for pneumonia in various patient populations
