Updates in Management of HIV in Pregnancy

This activity will provide a review of epidemiology, testing, and antiretrovirals related to evaluating and managing HIV in the pre-pregnancy, antepartum, and perinatal stages through presentation of recently published clinical practice guidelines and an analysis of literature evidence.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to

  • Summarize transmission mechanisms of HIV in the pre-pregnancy, antepartum, and perinatal stages
  • Determine appropriate antiretroviral medication therapy based on pharmacokinetic changes in pregnant patients
  • Apply guideline directed treatment recommendations for HIV to a pregnant patient in both the antepartum and intrapartum stages
  • Apply guideline directed treatment recommendations for management of newborns exposed to maternal HIV infection
