Respecting Choices Core Component Advance Care Planning Facilitator Course 2026: February 17

Core Component is the pre-requisite course for Respecting Choices First Steps and Next Steps ACP Facilitator courses, offered to healthcare workers for foundational learning about ACP. The ACP discussion is aimed at assisting patients in exploring their hopes, values and beliefs about their disease progression and possible treatment options. This course will provide the foundation for healthcare workers to facilitate ACP discussions.

Target Audience

This course is intended for an interprofessional audience that includes Nurses, Social Workers, Clergy/Faith Leaders, and others involved in Advance Care Planning. Target audience is professionals seeking certification in Advance Care Planning.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify intended populations for advance care planning conversations.
  2.  Verbalize strategies to engage individuals and healthcare agents in advance care planning.
  3. Demonstrate communication skills to promote person-centered conversations.
  4. Apply critical thinking to discern what matters most to individuals.
