PALS Foundations 2025

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Foundations provides supplemental learning to Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) program. It focuses on utilization of resources, appropriate medication preparation, team dynamics, and implementation of PALS algorithms during a pediatric emergency.

Target Audience

This course is intended for pediatric nurses.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate appropriate Zoll defibrillator pad application and use during emergency events per PALS algorithms, including defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion.
  2. Utilize resources such as a crash cart, Broselow tape, push-pull supplies for fluid resuscitation, and bag-valve-mask devices (infant, pediatric, adult) for ventilation in an emergency event.
  3. Perform appropriate dosing and preparation of PALS medications, including epinephrine, adenosine, and amiodarone, in an emergency event (as applicable to role).
  4. Implement PALS algorithms for at least three abnormal cardiac rhythms.
  5. Evaluate resuscitative efforts during a cardiac arrest through continuous assessment of CPR quality and delivering real-time feedback to the team.
  6. Evaluate the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance during an emergency event, including roles and closed loop communication.
