New Options on the Road to Recovery? Long-Acting Injectables for Substance Use Disorder
This is a presentation on long-acting injectable products for the management of substance use disorders. The two products to be discussed are long-acting injectable naltrexone and long-acting injectable buprenorphine. The presentation will cover basic pharmacology, recommended place in therapy, clinical evidence and safety, and unique patient scenarios and clinical pearls.

Learning Objectives
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to
- Summarize the pharmacology of buprenorphine and naltrexone in relation to alcohol and opioid use disorders.
- Evaluate a patient and provide recommendations around long-acting injectable naltrexone or buprenorphine.
- Identify possible complications or adverse effects resulting from long-acting injectable buprenorphine or naltrexone.
- Develop a monitoring plan and pain management strategy for an admitted patient on long-acting injectable buprenorphine or naltrexone.
