Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death for Americans and is the leading cause of disability. This session will provide you with an overview on what a stroke is and the differences between Ischemic Stroke, Transient Ischemic Attack, and Silent Stroke. You will also learn why stroke patients are admitted, the mechanisms/etiology, risk factors, important considerations in evaluating, and treatment options.

Target Audience

This course is intended for all physicians including generalists, neurologists, intensivists, radiologists, and pathologists, RN's, PA's, NP's, RTT's, and various other members of the health care team

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Recognize stroke and stroke etiology to properly manage and treat a patient
  2. Identify risk factors to reduce future risk and complications of stroke
