Let's Be Blunt: Acute Cannabis Toxicity

This seminar will cover the changing prevalence of recreational and medical cannabis use in the United States, as states continue to move toward legalization or decriminalization, and will address the main acute toxicities seen in the emergency department, including psychiatric manifestations, cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS), and pediatric ingestion.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to

  • Recognize the risk posed by recreational and medical cannabis use in the United States
  • Recall the most common cannabis toxicities seen upon presentation to the hospital
  • Demonstrate how to manage cannabis hyperemesis syndrome
  • Evaluate special populations who are at increased risk for cannabis toxicity
