HIV and STI Prevention and Treatment Summit: Innovation, Empowerment & Engagement 2026

The Summit will convene multidisciplinary public health professionals, community leaders and organizations, healthcare providers and advocates to explore innovative strategies that drive progress toward ending the HIV and syphilis epidemics. Anchored on the themes of innovation, empowerment and engagement, this year's summit will highlight cutting-edge approaches to prevention, testing and treatment, while celebrating the resilience and leadership of the communities most impacted.

This Summit is funded by Mecklenburg County Public Health, in collaboration with NC. Department of Health and Human Services and UNC Charlotte and jointly provided by South Piedmont Area Health Education Center.

This conference is being held in person at Harris Convention Center, 3216 CPCC Harris Campus Drive, Charlotte, NC 28235

Target Audience

This course is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and other healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe 3 ways to prevent HIV transmission. 
  2. Explain the benefits of Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). 
  3. Identify common signs and symptoms of syphilis. 
  4. Articulate appropriate CDC-recommended treatment for each stage of syphilis. 
  5. Discuss at least 3 public health services that are available for people living with HIV.

    Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME and Self-Assessment requirements of the American Board of Surgery's Continuous Certification program.
