Get Your Degree in DPYD! A Review of Dihydropyrimidine Dehydrogenase Pharmacogenomics

This presentation will focus on Dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPYD) genetic variations and its impact on the efficacy and toxicity of fluoropyrimidine-based therapy. Additionally, we will explore interpreting pharmacogenomic results and the role of pre-emptive testing within the patient’s treatment journey.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to

  • Summarize the current dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPYD) variant nomenclature, activity scores and pharmacogenomic resources
  • Analyze the impact of DPYD genetic mutations on fluoropyrimidines 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and capecitabine efficacy and toxicity
  • Identify patients who may be candidates for DPYD testing
  • Apply results of DPYD testing to a patient’s care plan
