EKG Essentials for Clinicians: What Every Physician and APP Needs to Know

The Basic EKG Interpretation course is designed to equip clinicians with the fundamental knowledge needed to utilize the EKG as a clinical tool. This course will incorporate subject matter expertise and content related to Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Primary Care, and Cardiology.  Designed to build foundational competency, the course covers core principles including cardiac electrophysiology, rhythm recognition, waveform analysis, and identification of common pathologies such as arrhythmias, ischemia, and conduction abnormalities. Through case-based learning and real-world examples, participants will develop the skills needed to confidently interpret EKGs in a variety of clinical settings, enhance diagnostic accuracy, and improve patient outcomes.

Target Audience

This course is intended for physicians and APPs (Physician Assistants and APRNs).

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  • Describe key elements of the EKG tool beyond initial training to ensure confidence in interpretation.​
  • Apply EKG interpretation effectively across multiple specialties for comprehensive patient care.​
  • Identify key EKG insights to support efficient, safe transfers and improve patient outcomes.​
  • Analyze and interpret underlying physiologic causes and their correlation with EKG findings
