Early Stage Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

The course aims to define the extent to the disease burden in the United States and take a closer look at AAH.  It will discuss who to screen, diagnosis criteria & the necessary testing and testing timeline to diagnose CKD.  Lifestyle, management of comorbidities, medication management and Advance Care Planning for these patients will be covered.   The course will also take a closer look at when to refer to nephrology and offer alternatives to hemodialysis centers in later stages of the disease. 

Target Audience

This course is intended for Primary Care Physicians.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Recognize the signs and dangers of chronic kidney disease
  2. Improve partnerships with patients to reduce morbidity and mortality due to CKD by managing other diseases, especially hypertension and diabetes
  3. Distinguish among options available for patients needing dialysis
  4. Refer patients to specialists when appropriate
