Clinical Issues in Marriage and Family Therapy Series: Exploring Grit, Resiliency, Adaptation, Grief and Loss with Families Who are Coping with Cancer

The purpose of this presentation is to explore the challenges associated with individual strengths and adaptation for families who are coping with cancer. Families who are facing cancer will most likely experience unique emotional and psychological changes that require effective coping strategies to navigate their ability to adapt, integrate resilience, and achieve Grit.

Target Audience

This course is intended for mental health practitioners, including physicians, marriage and family therapists, social workers, professional counselors, and other interested health care professionals.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Evaluate factors that contribute to the resilience and adaptation of families coping with cancer.
  2. Recommend effective coping strategies for adults, children, and families who are coping with cancer.
  3. Describe the perceived needs associated with resilience and adaptation for children and families coping with cancer.
  4. Recognize the role that Grit plays in the tendency for perseverance and positivity to adapt and cope with cancer.
