Clinical Issues in Couple and Family Therapy Series: Ethics & Boundaries: “Wait, I’m not prepared for this!”, Hot Topics in Couples Counseling
This interactive workshop will dive into the ethical complexities of working with couples throughout different developmental phases of their relationships. This session will explore ethical considerations and practical applications for real-world couple therapy scenarios. We will examine key issues such as confidentiality, boundaries, contraindications, cultural competency, and ethical considerations for telemental health. Through a combination of lecture, case conceptualization, and interactive elements, participants will enhance their ability to navigate some unique ethical dilemmas that arise in couples work, ultimately strengthening their practice and ethical decision-making.

Target Audience
This course is intended for mental health practitioners, including physicians, marriage and family therapists, social workers, professional counselors, and other interested health care professionals.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this session, learners should be able to:
- Identify and describe common ethical considerations when working with couples.
- Recognize concerns related to contraindications, confidentiality, and boundaries in couples therapy and be able to navigate them appropriately.
- Demonstrate an understanding of cultural competency when working with diverse couples.
- Address ethical considerations related to telemental health with couples.
