Charge Nurse Lead Workshop - 3/28/2024

This is a Charge Nurse Lead Workshop created for new Charge Nurses and Lead. Also, pertains to Charge Nurses and Leads looking for a refresher. It is a blended course with both an eLearning pre-requisite and virtual live course. This program consists of 1 e-Learning session and a 4 hour virtual session. There is a pre-requisite e-learning course that needs to be completed prior to the live course. The pre-requisite eLearning is 30 mins and the virtual live course is 3.5 hours with 3 10 min breaks totaling 4 hours. This will include group activities, videos, and discussions to help team members obtain training to become a Charge Nurse/Lead. The course will provide the foundational principles and skills needed to function effectively in a charge nurse/lead role.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for New Charge Nurses and Leads & Charge Nurses and Leads looking for a refresher.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify characteristics of an effective charge nurse/lead
  2. Utilize the tools to provide feedback
  3. Identify the importance and understanding of the safety huddle or set specific rounding
  4. Identify the role of a charge nurse/lead in diversity, equity, and inclusion in the unit.
  5. Access nursing resources at least once
  6. Distinguish how the charge nurse/leads’ position is a role model in service recovery and managing challenging behaviors
  7. Identify at least 2 reasons why accessing just-in-time resources are crucial/important such as PolicyTech/AADS, AAH Nursing Hub, or EBSCO to review procedures prior to patient care
  8. Identify at least 1 new strategy for effective unit/department staffing coordination
