Caution! Hazardous Drugs Ahead: The In's and Out's of Hazardous Drug Handling

This presentation will provide an overview of Hazardous Drug Storage and Handling utilizing NIOSH and organization resources. A focus on the pharmacy technician role in hazardous drug identification, storage and handling will also be discussed.

Target Audience

This course is intended for pharmacy technicians.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to

  • Recall federal regulations for hazardous drugs
  • Outline the approach for safe handling and storage of hazardous medications
  • Examine the role of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in teammate safety
  • Evaluate additional containment and decontamination products used in sterile compounding
