Overview

This presentation will cover the 2022 guideline updates regarding the treatment of patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The presentation will cover the identification of IBS, the treatment of IBS-specific symptoms, and the creation of all-encompassing treatment plans.

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) subtypes given signs, symptoms, and diagnostic criteria  
  2. Assess available pharmacologic treatments of IBS subtypes  
  3. Evaluate the role of nonpharmacologic treatments of IBS subtypes  
  4. Develop a treatment plan for a patient with IBS
