This presentation will address the fundamental aspects of beta thalassemia, including pathophysiology, clinical features, and diagnostic criteria. It will also explore recent advances in treatment options, with a focus on gene and biologic therapies, offering a review of therapeutic basics and relevant studies.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Outline the fundamental pathophysiology, clinical features, diagnostic criteria and therapy recommendations for beta-thalassemia.  

  2. Identify mechanisms of action, indications, monitoring, treatment logistics, supportive care, and reported clinical outcomes of current biologic medications and gene therapies used in the management of beta-thalassemia.  

  3. Evaluate individualized treatment strategies for beta-thalassemia based on patient-specific factors, including disease progression and clinical history.
