Aurora BayCare Current Concepts in Sports Medicine Symposium: Advances in Orthopedic Surgical Techniques and Rehab Implications Recorded Session

Surgical techniques are rapidly evolving with the advancement of technology and research. This one-day course will cover a variety of surgical presentations to give updated information including lateral ankle repair, hip impingement, massive shoulder repair, and advanced shoulder instability.  The course will also cover advancement in pharmaceutical pain management in post-operative patients and addressing fear avoidance with return to sport.

Target Audience

This course is intended for physicians primarily in orthopedics, physical therapists and assistants, and athletic trainers that work with patients following surgery. 

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify and discuss recent advancements in orthopedic surgical interventions for the upper and lower extremities, specifically the shoulder, hip, and ankle.
  2. Review the implications that surgical advancement has on rehabilitation protocols and identify treatment most appropriate for the procedure. 
  3. Understand compounding factors in post-surgical rehabilitation including pain perception, pain management, and fear avoidance in return to activity.
  4. Perform and implement current mobilization and intervention techniques for the athletic shoulder and hip.
