Assessment and Treatment of Suicide
This workshop begins with an overview of the prevalence and incidence of suicide in the U.S. followed by a discussion of prevailing myths about suicidality. The presenter describes various suicide risk and vulnerability factors within the context of extant differences as a function of sex, ethnicity, gender identity, age and occupation. Focusing on suicide risk assessment, the presenter outlines important "warning signs" and describe various screening and evaluation measures, including how to develop a suicide "safety plan". The remainder of the workshop will focus on evidenced-based treatment protocols aimed at reducing suicide risk.
