Advocate Midwest Regional Concussion Symposium 2025 Virtual

The concussion management symposium will allow rehab professionals to come together to learn how each discipline contributes to the management and care of concussion patients.  Speakers from a wide variety of disciplines will cover best practices in concussion management, differentiation and association of related diagnoses, collaborative approaches to care, and innovative treatment techniques to add to attendees' professional toolboxes.  After the conference, attendees will have a clear understanding of their role in the Concussion Management Network, know when to refer patients to other professionals, and possess skills to improve patient outcomes.

Target Audience

This course is intended for physicians, nurses, athletic trainers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other interested health professions. 

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Provide an interdisciplinary overview of concussion management across various populations, including high-adrenaline careers, children, college students, and older adults.
  2. Explore the benefits of complementary therapies such as yoga, meditation, chiropractic care, and speech-language pathology in concussion recovery.
  3. Discuss the role of audiology in evaluating and treating concussion-related auditory issues in both pediatric and adult populations.
  4. Examine the impact of cervicogenic headaches and whiplash on concussion recovery and the role of chiropractic care in treatment.
  5. Discover insights into cognitive and psychological factors, such as cogniphobia, that influence concussion rehabilitation.
  6. Recognize the autonomic nervous system’s role in concussion symptoms, with a focus on Posterior Cervical Sympathetic Syndrome.
  7. Summarize evidence-based strategies for managing concussions in different life stages, from pediatric to geriatric populations.
  8. Formulate collaboration among healthcare professionals to improve patient-centered concussion care.
  9. Engage in discussions and poster presentations to explore emerging research and best practices in concussion management.
