Advocate Midwest Regional Concussion Symposium 2024

The concussion management symposium will allow rehab professionals to come together to learn how each discipline contributes to the management and care of concussion patients. Speakers from a wide variety of disciplines will cover best practices in concussion management, differentiation and association of related diagnoses, collaborative approaches to care, and innovative treatment techniques to add to attendees’ professional toolboxes. After the conference, attendees will have a clear understanding of their role in the Concussion Management Network, know when to refer patients to other professionals, and possess skills to improve patient outcomes.

This conference is being held in person and virtually.

Target Audience

This course is intended for Physicians, Nurses, Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists and other interested health professionals.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify the role of each discipline in the concussion management network
  2. Develop new skills by gaining insight into distinct treatment techniques employed by various disciplines. 
  3. Recognize the pathophysiology of the post concussion metabolic cascade
  4. Summarize what contributes to prolonged symptoms and associated diagnoses behind them
  5. Evaluate the benefits and limitations of cognitive testing
  6. Describe the return to learn process
  7. Describe how medical management contributes to the rehabilitation of concussion patients
  8. Develop critical thinking, apply seminar knowledge, explore ideas from diverse disciplines, and engage in group discussions using case studies
