Cracking Cocaine Myths: Use of Beta-Blockers in Cocaine-Associated Chest Pain
This program explores the literature regarding the dogma that beta-blocker use in patients presenting with cocaine-associated chest pain leads to unopposed alpha-receptor stimulation, thereby causing profound hypertension, coronary vasospasm, and myocardial infarction. It juxtaposes historical understanding with modern literature and equips pharmacists with the information needed to effectively assess and safely treat patients with cocaine-associated chest pain.
