Advocate Health REMS Updates Recorded Presentation

Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) programs are designed to ensure that the benefits of certain high-risk medications outweigh their potential risks. This presentation will review REMS fundamentals and provide updates on medications recently added to or updated within the Advocate Health formulary, including their therapeutic uses, safety considerations, and program requirements. Participants will gain an understanding of teammate responsibilities that support REMS compliance and safe patient care.

This course is intended for Advocate Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians and other healthcare professionals 

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to

  • Describe the FDA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) process within Advocate Health.
  • Recognize REMS medications added to or significantly updated within the Advocate Health formulary during the previous year.
  • Explain the therapeutic uses and major safety concerns associated with newly implemented or updated REMS medications.
  • Identify the key pharmacist and pharmacy technician responsibilities associated with recently implemented or updated REMS programs.
