Advancing Oncology Precision Medicine: Integrating Genomics into Clinical Practice

This educational activity will provide a comprehensive update on precision oncology, with a focus on molecular diagnostic testing, clinical interpretation, and evidence‑based treatment decision‑making. The program will review current and emerging targeted therapies, best practices for therapy sequencing, and the appropriate use of tumor and hereditary cancer testing, including updates to diagnostic platforms and panel offerings available through ACL.
Through case‑based learning, sessions will highlight how to integrate molecular test results with evolving therapeutic options while incorporating genetic counseling principles to support accurate genomic test interpretation, therapeutic selection, and identification of patients who may benefit from additional or reflex testing. Learners will also explore the implications of hereditary findings for patients and their families, including when referral to genetic counseling is warranted.
A debate‑style session will examine combination versus single‑target treatment strategies for patients with multiple actionable alterations, emphasizing considerations related to sequencing, resistance mechanisms, and individualized care planning.
The overarching goal of this activity is to equip clinicians with practical tools to apply precision medicine principles in routine practice, enhance multidisciplinary decision‑making, and optimize personalized treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes.

Target Audience

This course is intended for Physicians, Physician Assistants (PA’s), Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN), Nurses (RN), Pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify appropriate precision oncology tests, including tumor, hereditary, and apply best practices for ordering and interpretation.
  2. Differentiate between single‑target and combination treatment strategies for patients with multiple actionable mutations.
  3. Apply precision medicine principles to develop individualized treatment plans based on molecular findings, clinical presentation, genetic implications for finding and available therapeutic options.
  4. Integrate updated panel testing capabilities and diagnostic workflows (e.g., ACL cancer panel updates) into routine clinical practice.
