The education series is designed to enhance the skills and competencies of resident physicians in addressing the social determinants of health and health equity in their clinical practice. The series will cover topics such as the impact of poverty, racism, and discrimination on health outcomes, the principles and strategies of person-centered care, and the best practices for delivering culturally responsive and inclusive care to diverse and marginalized populations in the central-city area. The series will consist of lectures, workshops, case studies, and interactive sessions

Overall Objectives:

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe how Social Drivers of Health influence health engagement, disease morbidity, and mortality.
  2. Demonstrate use of Motivational Interviewing to foster a collaborative patient-provider relationship, enabling shared decision-making and personalized action planning.
  3. Describe strategies to mitigate the impact of adverse social drivers of health to promote health equity in medical care
