  • Describe the new Essentials (AACN, 2021) document as a framework for nursing education and the potential impact on nursing professional governance and nursing leadership. 
  • Create a vision to embrace opportunities for nursing leadership growth for full professional governance as part of the academic education of nursing students. 
  • Highlight the current efforts of healthcare organizations to fill the leadership gaps in novice nurses resulting in delays in full entry to practice, using transition-to-practice programs and advocacy for formal mentoring for governance leadership development
