Objectives:

  • Describe the evolution of healthcare quality measure and the significance of benchmarking measure across the healthcare system with nursing professional governance accountable for outcomes.   
  • Discuss the importance of nurse sensitive indicators (NSIs) as a means of nursing practice oversight and governance, including the three categories of NSI measurement, and give three examples of tactics to track progress and nurse contribution using NSIs and other strategic outcome measures.
  • Discuss the impact of the nurse’s role in health equity, patient safety, and coordinated care across the continuum of health services from the lens of professional governance ownership and accountability
