This presentation will start by clinically defining diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and its pathophysiology. It will then transition into current guidelines from the American Diabetes Association and the Joint British Diabetes Society Guidelines for DKA. Next, it will discuss long-acting insulin, its role in DKA management, and why early administration may benefit this population. Finally, it will summarize the current literature on the early administration of long-acting insulin in this patient population.
