Description: This course will demonstrate how Epic is programmed to translate a representative order into the correct and final dispensed product. Both pharmacists and technicians will learn how to find authorization information in a patient chart to support their ordering, compounding, and verification workflows, with a focus on biosimilars.

  • Describe the difference between an Orderable Medication and a Dispensable Medication in Epic, and the advantages of each
  • Explain criteria types that can be used in Epic Dispensable Mapping logic to direct Orderables to the intended Dispensables
  • Identify locations in the patient chart where authorization and referral documentation can be located to support choice of biosimilar product during verification

  • Differentiate between inpatient and outpatient biosimilar usage
  • Identify locations in the patient chart where authorization and referral documentation can be located to support choice of biosimilar product during verification
  • Recognize opportunities for technicians to prepare ahead of patient encounters to ensure proper product selection and availability, especially for biosimilars and White Bag restrictions
