Topic: Get Climate Smart: Vector Borne Illness
Overview: Been bitten by a bug lately? Vector-borne diseases are human illnesses caused by parasites, viruses and bacteria that are transmitted by vectors - living organisms like mosquitoes and ticks that can transmit infectious pathogens between humans or from animals to humans. As our climate changes, the resulting increase in storms, floods and the duration of our warm seasons have important implications for changes in the prevalence and geographic range of vector borne diseases. This session will highlight those changes in a brief clinical overview followed by patient care examples and direct patient care strategies from the perspectives of medicine, nursing, pharmacy and social work.
