
Continuous Bladder Irrigation (On-Demand)
Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) is a procedure designed to prevent blood clot formation and maintain catheter patency (free flow of urine). By continuously flushing the bladder with sterile fluid through a 3-way catheter, it prevents blockage and reduces risk of infection or bladder damage, especially after prostate or bladder surgery.
Target Audience
Wisconsin and Michigan Practitioners: Paramedic, CCT Paramedic
Learning Objectives
- Review 3-way Foley catheter equipment
- Review manual irrigation techniques
- Review continuous irrigation techniques
- Understand proper placement of drainage system
- Avoiding dependent loops in draining tubing
On-Demand Education
This course is approved by the EMS Medical Director for continuing education credit. This service medical director approval ensures credits are accepted by the State of Wisconsin EMS Section and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
This course is not considered pre-approved education by the State of Michigan Bureau of Emergency Preparedness, EMS, and Systems of Care and does not qualify for hourly credit.
