- Describe the patient’s best interest standard.
- Recognize that parental authority is not absolute.
- Identify strategies for resolving conflicts when there is a difference in parents’ values and medical professionals’ values.
- Identify the steps one must take to justify involving state agencies to compel treatment of a child.
