Course Overview: This lecture provides a comprehensive, clinically grounded overview of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, spanning from early detection through the treatment of cognitive symptoms. It integrates diagnostic frameworks for mild cognitive impairment and dementia with practical approaches to evaluation, communication, pharmacologic and emerging disease-modifying therapies, and risk reduction strategies. Attendees will also gain insight into evolving treatment paradigms and the implications of biomarker-driven care in routine practice.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the activity, the learner should be able to:

  • Apply contemporary diagnostic criteria and evaluation strategies to distinguish mild cognitive impairment, dementia syndromes, and Alzheimer’s disease in clinical practice.
  • Assess the benefits, limitations, and risks of current and emerging pharmacologic therapies, including cholinesterase inhibitors, memantine, and anti-amyloid treatments.
  • Implement evidence-based approaches to risk reduction, patient communication, and longitudinal care planning for individuals across the Alzheimer’s disease continuum.
