Overview: This session seeks to provide key information on low barrier, immediate access to medications for the treatment of opioid use disorder (MOUD) for persons with OUD. The presenter will share information on best practices for treatment of OUD, how to access and refer patients to a statewide telemedicine MOUD and MAUD helpline that has linked over 2,500 callers with OUD and AUD to medication and follow-up services since May 2022.
Objectives: Upon completion of the activity, the learner should be able to:
- Learn and review the guiding principles of medication-first, low barrier approaches to opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment.
- Learn how the Medication Assisted Recovery Now (MAR NOW) model operates and reduces the wait time for access to the medications to treat OUD and AUD for patients in Illinois.
- Gain information on how MAR NOW may be used to link Adults struggling with opioid use and alcohol use to medications for the treatment of substance use disorders.
