Course Overview:
This session will provide a practical approach to evaluating and managing parathyroid disorders through the interpretation of calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. Attendees will learn how to distinguish primary hyperparathyroidism from other causes of hypercalcemia and apply current recommendations for treatment and monitoring. The presentation will also review management of hypoparathyroidism and highlight strategies for recognizing and addressing calcium-related emergencies, complications, and common clinical pitfalls.

Course Objectives:

  1. Apply a systematic approach to interpreting calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels to differentiate primary hyperparathyroidism from other causes of calcium disorders.

  2. Identify appropriate management strategies for hyperparathyroidism and hypoparathyroidism, including indications for intervention, monitoring, conventional therapies, and emerging treatment options.

  3. Recognize and manage calcium-related emergencies and complications, including hungry bone syndrome, magnesium abnormalities, and inherited parathyroid disorders.
