This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, residents/fellows, health educators, social workers, navigators and other healthcare professionals, and aims to address cancer health disparities by providing education to healthcare professionals on the barriers faced by underserved populations. Supported by national experts and local leaders, the series emphasizes the importance of culturally concordant care and aims to improve the cancer continuum for vulnerable groups affected by social determinants of health. By focusing on cancer health equity and the well-being of both patients and healthcare providers, the program seeks to reduce burnout and enhance comprehensive cancer care delivery amidst current workforce challenges.

Overall Objectives:

  1. Diagnose the burden of cancer among underserved populations within and beyond the Atrium Health cancer catchment area.
  2. Interpret topics relevant to cancer health equity, especially gaps negatively affecting patient outcomes in the Atrium Health cancer catchment area.
  3. Analyze strategies leading to community engagement and cancer health equity.
  4. Incorporate mental health strategies and coping mechanisms when daily work is challenged by structured health inequities faced by cancer patients, decreasing the risk of professional burnout.
  5. Integrate an understanding of psychosocial wellbeing to employ coping strategies towards achieving a work-life balance.
