Description: This presentation will cover 2024 guideline updates on venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis in oncology patients. The presentation will cover motives for using VTE prophylaxis in oncology patients, indications for VTE prophylaxis in this patient population, and the current options for pharmacologic VTE prophylaxis agents recommended in the guidelines.

  • Classify VTE risk in oncology patients.
  • Assess treatment indications & contraindications for pharmacologic VTE prophylaxis in oncology patients.
  • Compare and contrast enoxaparin and direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in the prevention of VTE in oncology patients.
  • Develop a care plan for an oncology patient requiring pharmacologic VTE prophylaxis.
