Suicide: Essential New Findings
This course will provide recent, updated worldwide, US and Wisconsin data on the epidemiology of suicides, including data on various suicide methods, timing of suicide, and meta-analyses of suicide risk factors. We will review new data regarding the likely effectiveness of specific public health -based and clinically–based suicide prevention strategies. We will also review recently published data regarding rates and risk factors for suicides among psychiatric inpatients and among those recently discharged from psychiatric inpatient care. Finally, we will review new, standardized, methods that are being employed to reliably document suicidal intent, and ways that that information and other healthcare system changes might be integrated and oriented to head toward a Zero Suicide goal for health care in the US and Wisconsin.
