Overview

Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) is a national initiative that emphasizes the fundamental rights of women, newborns, and families with equitable access to evidence-based care while recognizing unique needs and preferences. This session will feature how Advocate Health is implementing RMC and state initiatives to achieve equity & improved outcomes.

Objectives: Participants will be able to:         

1. Describe the key processes and outcomes of RMC, a program supported by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN)

2. Discuss current state & how Advocate Health is working to improve equity/outcomes.

3. Relate how equity must go beyond race (e.g. surrogacy, obesity, etc.)

4. Identify 1-2 specific implications to apply to their professional practice.
