This program will provide an overview of medications likely to cross the placenta and get excreted into breast milk and characteristics of those medications that are most important. It will also cover areas of therapy that may need to be changed in pregnant or lactating patients, and what options may be safer for that patient population.

  • Recognize characteristics of medications that are likely to cross placenta or become excreted  
  • Identify common disease states requiring treatment modification in patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding 
  • Distinguish medications to be avoided in pregnancy or breastfeeding 
  • Develop a medication regimen for a pregnant patient or breastfeeding patient using current guidelines and resources
