Course Overview: An overview of the robotic minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass  (midcab) program: robotic assistance enables coronary bypass through small chest incisions, avoiding a full sternotomy and reducing pain, blood loss, and recovery time. Patient selection is addressed, including the coronary anatomy and comorbidities that define a good candidate. Joint case planning between cardiology and surgery is also covered, from referral timing and shared review of angiography and imaging to hybrid revascularization strategies, giving a practical path for referring suitable patients.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of the activity, the learner should be able to:

  • Evaluate patient selection criteria, including coronary anatomy, ejection fraction, and comorbidities that may favor a robotic approach.
  • Compare expected outcomes - including recovery time, length of stay, pain control, and return to activity—between robotic approaches and sternotomy
