Overview

Doll Therapy (DT) is defined as the process of engagement between a doll and a patient with behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia or confusion. Engagement may include holding, cuddling, or hugging, talking to, and dressing the doll.  This presentation will share how nurses at Atrium Health Navicent (GA) implemented DT as a non-pharmacologic intervention to reduce falls and improved outcomes in patients displaying significant neuropsychiatric symptoms in the acute care setting.

Objectives: Participants will be able to:

1. Relate how doll therapy can be used to calm patients with acute or chronic confusion.

2. Describe how to recognize mental and behavioral symptoms that warrant intervention.

3. Discuss how to implement doll therapy and measure outcomes for success in acute care.

3. Describe 1-2 takeaways for your practice
